Greece was recently stunned by a tragedy which took place at the gorge of River Lousios in Arkadia, Peloponnese. Eighteen hikers were stricken by a surge of water when the river overflowed, leaving ten trapped in the hazardous terrain. The Hellenic Rescue Team, in cooperation with the appropriate State authorities, participated in one of the most dangerous rescue missions in decades, with remarkable results.
The HRT is a non-governmental organisation comprised solely of volunteers, with branches throughout Greece. Additionally to rescue operations, its members undertake humanitarian and training projects, worldwide.
The Anna-Maria Foundation continues its collaboration with the HRT, by donating €20,000 for the purchase of equipment.
